Development of Self-Organisation Skills in Digitalised Industrial Working Environments

Develop and promote self-organisation skills

The most important driver of "Industry 4.0" is the advancing digitalisation, which enables new business models, forms of cooperation and management approaches. Employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are confronted with constantly changing requirements. Skilled workers, semi-skilled and unskilled workers no longer function as mere operators at the machine, but as coordinators, bearers of experience and decision-makers. This requires self-organisation skills and expert handling of human-machine interfaces. Industrial SMEs often have neither suitable qualification concepts nor the resources to develop them themselves.

Aim of the research project

The aim of the ESKODIA research project is to enable SME employees to independently meet the changing requirements for self-organisation and machine coordination. An app-supported instrument for the company-related determination of competence and qualification needs as well as a realistic production environment as a demonstrator for dealing with relevant human-machine interfaces are being developed. This will enable SMEs to derive target group-specific qualification measures, implement them efficiently and enable their employees to act as coordinators in a progressively digitalised working environment.

Social added value

The project results will be applied and prototypically validated in the three SMEs of the consortium and support them on their way to digital transformation. The demonstrator will be available for information, education and training purposes beyond the project duration. In the future, the app and the qualification concepts will be passed on to interested companies as consulting, training and coaching offers and will flow into academic courses. The results will improve the day-to-day operations of local SMEs, secure jobs and strengthen the competitiveness of the German economy.
